Very good kiln haul today, have been waiting patiently.
Preparing mentally to have more grief this week and thinking again about how we culturally don’t mourn. I enjoyed driving to the studio and seeing a cars public display of remembrance.
Not everything’s grief and I spent some time at the studio realizing this was in fact a porcelain penis.
I need to go make fish if I’m going to meet my nonexistent goals. Drew the hanging fish silhouettes to try to get reenergized by them. I thought I could spell until phallus.
things I like about the ceramics
reclaim buckets and thinking about what other people throw away
when other people eat in the studio
passionfruit across the street
good dancing windows
everything becomes an experiment like mixing mottled blue on top of Emily’s purple
creating new systems of organization
the way the light hits
what other people put on their shelves
other people’s pottery
Something changed tonight. I hung some fish. I have about 50 at home and chose to hang four. The first one I picked up wasn’t blue or green but lilac, I think a mixture of two glazes. I think when I go to the studio next time I’ll glaze a purple batch, or batches intended to be purple. But for tonight, I listened to how they sounded as they hit against each other while listening to Phoebe Bridgers. I’m tired, but not of I Know The End and not of fish.
Exploring underglazes and what it adds to the finished fish.
Decided to make test tiles to explore different combinations. What underglazes might appear better under a transparent glaze.
These fish will also become more experimental since they’ve already been bisqued.
I’m also preparing some with wax resist to see what fun can occur.
I think someone used wax resist to create the beautiful decoration on this vase. Truly a magnificent thing to see in the studio.
Not everything can be fish. Some things are collages with clay.
Damn these pics hit.
